Outdoor Recreation… In the Winter

Outdoor recreation gets hard when the snow falls. It is not as easy to go outside and toss a football around when it is 40 degrees outside, nor can you go for a nice, relaxing run. There are some alternatives though. Snow boarding and skiing are the most popular, but they also require the greatest cash flow and require some planning ahead. Most of the population does not live in great proximity to a ski resort. If you are into skiing or snowboarding then that can be a legitimate outdoor activity to do during the winter.

There are those of us that do not enjoy skiing or do not have the money to ski, but would still like to go outside during the winter months. Here are a few alternatives: The first idea is to go sledding. Sleds are roughly $15 compared with $400 for a good pair of skis, and you stil get the thrill of going down a hill. Another idea is snowshoeing. This isn’t a sport that is the easiest to get into, but if you go with a few friends who have done it before it can really be a lot of fun. Again, effective snowshoes are much cheaper than skis or a snowboard. For those who want absolutely no contact with the snow, your best bet may be to buy an indoor UV lamp and a treadmill.
