Christmas Story: Idaho Boy Stuck to Pole
The scene where Flick licks the flag pole in "A Christmas Story" actually happened to a 10-year-old boy. The boy got his tongue stuck to a metal pole. No one knows if he did it as a result of a triple dog dare but firefighters had to help remove the boy from the metal fence pole by using a cup of warm water.
The fire chief said that the boy’s tongue was bleeding a little bit but he was fine and was able to go to school. The boy had been walking to school when the incident occurred. Luckily, a woman driving by saw it and called 911. The boy is fine but vows never pull the stunt again.
At least one brave boy usually carries out this stunt every year. Last year the boy was a 10-year-old from
A 13-year-old girl in Spokane,WA apparently stuck her tongue to the flag pole outside her school. The girl had a chilly experience especially considering it was only 10 degrees outside. A friend reported the incident and they were able to unattach her tongue from the pole fairly easily.
Coming from someone that’s never tried this stunt, it doesn’t look very fun. However, it is extremely funny whet it happens. Especially on “A Christmas Story" when the character Flick has a massive bandage wrapped around his tongue. These are definitely learning experiences for these children. And for the rest of us a good chuckle.
