How Much Do Celebs on Twitter Get?

If you think celebs twitter for fun you are dead wrong that’s not very accurate. They just want to make sure that they continue to tweet in order to keep their fans close. But now that isn’t enough, so now they tweet for a price. Kim Kardashian has 2.7 million followers and can now command $10,000 per posting on Twitter.

Kim’s last post read "I must have pinched a nerve in my neck. I can hardly look to my left. I will pass on my workout today. I need a massage." All these tweets are fairly mundane and a waste of everyone’s time but others they are actually profiting from.

Kim is now including advertisements in her posts. In one of her last tweets which was 140 characters long she led her followers to a Nestle commercial and then a banner ad sponsoring Carl’s Jr. But the most shocking part is that these Kardashian tweets have a price tag of $10,000 per post.

These posts are pricey but also common among other celebrities. Because there is a substantial amount of money to be had if they spice up their posts by commercial name dropping. And because of how popular twitter has become there are now a number of advertising services specific to Twitter especially in the L.A. area.

Social networking is a big deal right now and companies want to get onboard. In fact companies are now creating an algorithm that assesses the value of a celebrity’s audience depending on how many followers they have and how many of those people actually listen, along with other variables.

Apparently several celebrities have already signed up to promote certain companies or products. And the company will match the brand with the person endorsing it as well as their audience in order to improve the effectiveness of the campaign. And the company will even specify the message for the celb to tweet.

But sponsored tweets have to meet laws set by the Federal Trade Commission. Tweets must fully disclose who owns the accounts. But with this disclosure comes anger from followers. They feel exploited and some fans stop following that celeb. So there’s a fine balance to getting everything right. And the companies and celebs have to make sure to get the point across without alienating their followers.
