Which College Is Right For You?
There are a number of Colleges out there today and the available choices can be overwhelming. There are community Colleges, small Private Colleges, Larger Public Colleges, trade schools, technical schools, military schools – the list goes on and on!
While there is a school for everyone, finding the right College for you can be very difficult. Before you even start your search, you need to determine what your end-goal is. What do you want to walk away with, in regards to your College education and what are some necessities for your school of choice? Take some times and really take notes on everything that is important to you. Remember, you’ll probably spend at least 4 years in this College! Ask yourself the following questions:
What do I want to do for the rest of my life?
What kind of environment do I want to spend the next 4 years in?
How much money can I realistically afford?
Where do I want to live?
You need to give this a lot of thought.
There are quite a few larger Colleges that have options for everyone, in every stage of lifes. Night classes, part time or weekend courses. Whatver your schedule is like, there is likely a program for you.
Give some thought as to where you’d like to reside, as well. Do you want to live on campus or on your own? In an off campus apartment? Maybe a fraternity or a sorority house? If you’re going to live on campus, take some time to think about where you would like to live. Remember, you’ll be there for at least 4 years. Do you want to live in the heart of the city or in the country? Each option has their pros and cons. A school in the city will typically offer better public transportation and more things to do, while a school in the country will offer a more relaxing and serene experience. What means more to you? Having total peace and quiet when you need it or having an upbeat nightlife to take advantage of?
One of the most important factors will be the cost. If you’ve got your heart set on an Ivy League University, don’t let the steep price tag deter you. There are lots of scholarship and financing options for those who are willing to put in some time and effort! Your guidance counselor can probably give you a hand in selecting the best scholarship or financing options.
A College education is something that can never be taken away from you and it is not a decision that should be made quickly. Give it some real thought and try and get information from as many Colleges as possible so that you can see what is out there!
