Yawning at Work? Try These Tips

Tips to Fight Boredom at Work

Boredom at work can be a huge challenge. It’s harder to stay on task when you’re bored, and your work may suffer for it. Here are some tips to help you stay focused, prevent boredom, and keep you doing a fantastic job.

Follow a Schedule

Following a schedule can help you with your work. Create a timeline for completing tasks and stick to it. When your time is up for one job, smile to yourself and move on to something more interesting.

Goals

Goals will help you get the job done and move on to other tasks. It is important to set realistic objectives that can be reasonably accomplished. Don’t aim to take over the company this week, start with a goal to lead the department first.

Challenges

These can be exciting and working to meet them can help overcome boredom. If you are constantly finding that you are bored at work, consider adding a new routine to make things more interesting. Keep in mind that challenging yourself to surf at least 1,000 websites is not an office and career-friendly contest and won’t win you any good employee points.

Take a Break

Breaks do more than allow you time to feed your body, they also give you time to rest your mind. Take that few minutes to rest your brain and relax. You will find that it will help you increase your productivity.

Mentors

One of the fastest ways to make your job more interesting is to teach someone else about it. Be a mentor to other employees in the workplace. By teaching them the ropes and tricks, you will find new interest in your job. Are you the newbie in the office? Talk to your boss about a mentor to help you learn the ropes.

Different Positions

If you are constantly bored with work, take time to examine your performance. If you are doing an amazing job and feel that there simply is no challenge left in your position then it may be time to approach your boss about trying something new. While it may not mean a raise, it will most certainly mean a welcome change of pace.

Take Better Care of Yourself

The boredom battle may not be the result of a boring job. It can also be the result of not getting enough sleep. Make sure that you are getting plenty of shut-eye and following a healthy diet to help prevent the boredom blues at work.

Another way to fight boredom is to rearrange your office. Simply moving the furniture around can sometimes help you feel more energized about your job. If this is not an option, consider bringing in some family pictures or other decorations for the space. Taking a few moments to focus on something that makes you happy before getting back to work can also help you fight boredom at work. Just make sure that you don’t zone out for long periods of time; a brief break to rest the brain can be enough to beat boredom.
