True Strength Training

Strength training is not simply lifting weights. If you want to gain weight and become much stronger, there are certain techniques you need to follow. First, strength training’s purpose is to increase the size of the muscle and to increase the maximum amount of energy the muscle can exert. It is not to increase the endurance of the muscle, though that might be a side effect. In order, to make the muscle larger, it is much better to lift heavier than normal weights for fewer reps. By doing that, you allow the muscle to have mini-tears, and when your body heals them, that is when your muscle will actually get larger.
It is also important that you let your muscles rest at least every other day. If you work out your biceps for strength one day, then the next day you should let them rest. They need to be able to heal if they are going to grow. Once you have worked out the muscle, if you are looking to really bulk up, have a protein shake within an hour of finishing your workout. You want your body to use this new protein to rebuild your muscle, not your current fat or protein cells.
