Having a disability can involve a number of things. It can be mental or physical and they are usually very difficult if not impossible to cure. Many people believe that stem cell research has the ability to cure disabilities, but a lot of people are worried about the implications of stem cell research. Opponents feel we should not be playing god and killing the embryo to take its stem cell, while advocates do not believe we are killing any human life to get the stem cells. Regardless of whether you are for or against stem cell research, there is no denying its ability to cure many disabilities in our world. A stem cell can grow into any cell, so it can be used to essentially regenerate human tissue. This could be revolutionary. There are some hold ups though, and the popular media has played those up. For instance the movie I am Legend has nothing to do with stem cells, but people worry that by us playing god we could really do some damage to the human race, like the movie entails. The debate will continue, but hopefully one day stem cells can rid the world of some terrible disabilities.
