Russia Can Still Manipulate Ex-Soviet States

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Even though it’s been almost 20 years since the Berlin Wall came down Russia still has some power.  Although most eastern european countries embraced Democracy after the collapse of Soviet dominance they are still facing problems when it comes to Russia.

Currently, there is a pipeline planned to run along the bed of the Baltic Sea that will carry Russian gas to Western Europe. While the pipeline pleases western Europeans many easterners are unhappy and worried.

This pipeline could cause a deep wedge between the two sections
formerly separated by the Iron Curtain. On the one hand the pipeline will provide energy benefits to Western Europe but it could also lead to Russian domination of the former Soviet bloc because of gas.

Russia has already divided members of the European Union that vowed to act collectively to protect their security. Currently, the pipeline has to run from Eastern Europe in order to get to Western
Europe. This means that if Russia wants anything, all they need to do is stop pumping gas to the West and there will be immediate pressure oncountries in the east to comply.

This ability provides Russia with greater power because if the east
fails to comply the West will suffer and protests will rage in the
wealthier and more powerful western countries. The fear is Russia
will play pipeline politics with its neighbors.

Gazprom the Russian gas company provides Europe with 28 percent of its natural gas. There is a need for this energy because the North Seas output has declined. Unlike eastern Europeans, Russians believe that the pipeline will unite Europe. Despite the tension in Europe, the E.U. Commission and Parliament did approve the pipeline.

Even though Western Europeans favor the pipeline; former Communist
countries fear Soviet domination once again. These countries were forced into Communism and Soviet dominance after World War II and are leery about becoming vulnerable to the Soviet iron fist. They fear they will fall prey to energy blackmail and western countries will fail to support them because they are reliant on the energy Russia provides.

Just two years ago Russia shut off a similar pipeline that went through Ukraine because of a labor dispute and as a result thousands of homes throughout Central Europe were without heating and many factories had to shut down. It’s this type of incident that has not only Eastern Europeans but also many Western Europeans worried about the future.

The pipeline isn’t finished but has already divided the European Community. With the pipeline Russia will be able to pursue a divide and conquer policy. The struggle over resources is more important than the considerations of European unity.

Learn Online To Speak Spanish Fluently

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

by Ingrid Grzeskowiak
Do You Want To learn Spanish?

Do you know someone who speaks Spanish? When it comes to Spanish speakers, chances are everyone in California and Texas know one. Statistics give you an idea about that nearly half of all U.S. Hispanics are located in in California and Texas.

It’s safe to assume that as a Southern Californian, at least one in four people is speaking Spanish.

Do you think about learning Spanish or any of the other languages? Learning another language offers many advantages, and if you are a U.S. resident, learning Spanish may help your daily life more than you recognize.

With the internet expanding, large businesses and small businesses alike seek Spanish speakers. As a person who speaks a second language fluently you have the ability to speak to customers in that language, by this means expanding your prospective customer basis. As an employee, what´s your benefit here? Employers comprehend this as beneficial, which can as well indicate a higher pay. If you previously both speak Spanish and English and are not being rewarded by your employer, I would propose that you consider the idea of searching a new job. Your qualification might be worth a lot more in salary than you think!

If you like to take a trip and visit foreign countries you might have experienced that it is much easier to get around when you are familiar with a bit of the language spoken. Inhabitants in that foreign country also have the tendency to welcome strangers in a different way who show curiosity in their language. You might also know that street vendors use to boost their prices for tourists, chiefly once they understand you don’t speak their language. Knowing the language will help you obtain beneficial treatment, which can have the effect of lower prices and better overall service.

Likewise better prices when you travel to predominately Spanish speaking countries, you will also build up a better cultural understanding. How many magazines have you glanced at in your lifetime that inspire (and educate) your opinion and understanding of your own culture? Now imagine of how much culture you will experience by just being able to read Spanish books and the media; a new approach of thinking and feeling will be exposed to you.

One more great reason to learn to speak Spanish is that it is simple to learn. Spanish and English vocabularies are very similar. What is more, Spanish is very easy to read – even for a beginner.

Do you like helping people? If so, after you have learned Spanish, you will be better equipped to aid people in your daily life all thanks to your capability to correspond in at least two languages. The good will goes both ways: you can inquire for help from people that you ordinarily couldn’t speak to.

Last not least do not forget that it can be a lot of fun to learn something new regardless what you intend to do with it. Learning Spanish online with your whole family participating in the process certainly has a few more benefits on the social side of life that should not be underestimated.

Career Change, Is It Intended For A Baby Boomer?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

You have less worries when you are a kid. Your parents provide for all your material and emotional requirements. As an individual grows old, their requirements and desires also grow with them. And finally, when they graduate college, it is now time to start a life of their own.

Finding the right vocation that is of great interest to you can be quite challenging. But if you successfully choose a good job and choose to keep it, you will have a great life.

There are many career paths to take. So before anything else, you must make certain that you are on the right course. Oftentimes, people end up with a job or career that they are not interested in; they simply manage to push through with it because they need the money.

In today’s challenging times, having a well paying career is already enough. You can finance all your cost of living, most especially if you have children to support. But if the situation is like this, a time will arrive when you will finally get weary of doing a job that you’re not interested in.

If you fit in the age group of the baby boomers, you already have a career by now. You are the kind of individual who wants to work harder and longer. If you feel like a job change, it is not at all too late. In fact, the majority of the baby boomers in the labor force are retiring late, and there are still those who change their careers. A good number of the baby boomers want to continue in contributing or working even after they stop working.

It is common to change a career in your lifetime. You can even find individuals who changed their careers more than three times. The motive for this is that they haven’t found the right career that they can be happy with, and what they love doing. Perhaps they will stop changing careers only after they found what suits their requirements and wants.

A career change for a baby boomer can be a bit tough. Most Baby Boomers grew up in a thriving time, where everything was easy for them to have like education and their material needs. In today’s competitive market, a baby boomer ought to be able to compete with other qualified people.

It may be better to regard a career change as an opportunity to find a better occupation, one that will suit you best. You should find a job that you love doing and one that you would be content with until you retire from work.

About 3% of people going through changes in their career are forced to do so because they were laid-off and roughly 4.5% just want to look at something different. Undergoing a change in career can be a great deal easier, more enjoyable, and productive if you work out a couple of things like:

1. evaluate your talents and see if it can be used in other jobs
2. money does not matter to most people; so find a job that is meaningful for you, one that you love doing
3. discover where your passion lies
4. always be practical; if your skills go well with the job, you are probably better of without it
5. do you want to stay in the profession or do you want a radical change in your career
6. if you’re satisfied with the present company that you work for, maybe you can ask for re-training
7. don’t be concerned about your age, what’s vital are your skills and the things that you can do
8. you can join organizations in the area that you’re interested in

These are just few of the things that you must do before looking for for a new career. Your career know-how matters in getting into a new job, as well as appropriate education.

Change is natural. The world changes every day; inventions can take place overnight. But with a career change, you can’t do it with the snap of your finger. You must think about a lot of things like your family, your needs, and other vital matters.

It’s in no way too late for baby boomers. You’ve lived your life long enough as a happy-go-lucky individual. It’s time to stick with the realities of life and begin working hard in your new-found livelihood.
