1.5 Pounds of Metal Swallowed

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Doctors in Peru removed 1.5 pounds of metal that included nails, coins, copper wire, and scrap metal from a mans stomach. The man has since been labeled "the hardware store." The surgeon remarked that he had "never seen a similar case. This was definitely a medical phenomenon."

The man had entered the hospital and doctors believed it was appendicitis. They went in for surgery and found a hole in the stomach. They removed a bunch of metal that the man had been swallowing for months.

The 26-year-old construction worker reported that he "swallowed 17 nails in February and didn’t die." They were five-inch nails and it was done in one day. Because of similiar behaviour the man underwent surgery and is still recovering in the hospital.

Doctors are concerned about Abanto’s mental health as he recovers. They will be sending specialists to talk with him and see if he is able to be on his own. The man also told reporters that he may now do it in public "as sport."

This man apparently isn’t mentally stable. He is eating metal and lots of it for no reason. He wasn’t even doing it as a publicity stunt although it looks like that’s what it turned into. He needs some help because this is dangerous. He already had a hole in his stomach and he defends his actions by saying "I swallowed 17 and didn’t die?"

This man apparently isn’t afraid of death and is pushing the bounds to see just how much he can handle. But what is completely baffling is why he would do it. It doesn’t sound like he got anything out of it except some surgery and one interview from reporters. And most likely nothing else will happen until he ends up swallowing three pounds of metal and dies from it. Idiot!
